Food you eat is either satvic, rajasic or tamasic according to its character and effect upon the body and the mind. One can find out the nature or temperament of a man from the nature of the food he prefers.
Today I chose a class that uses the movements and breath to remind me of Ahimsa, the practice of non-violence. I enjoyed being reminded to not sacrifice my breath for a posture, and to notice what my mind does when something is challenging. My body was moving and stretching, and yet, I feel more like I spent an hour practicing gentle self-talk, and noticing where my thoughts go and how much violence and attack I do still engage in., and being gentle and loving to that part of myself. I spent an hour breathing and getting to know myself—as a body, a mind and a spirit—with purposeful movement and a gentle guide. I love this part of my physical and spiritual practice. I have so much to take with me into life today, as I move my yoga off the mat,
too. Though one might think the right yoga practice for losing weight would be an aerobic style, like Ashtanga or a fast-paced vinyasa flow, a recent study showed that the mellowest form of yoga, restorative yoga, can also help people lose significant weight.
Today, as you practice, allow yourself to meditate on the idea of accepting and inviting softness into your physical core. As in all aspects of yoga, strength and flexibility marry to form a whole. Your belly is not your enemy but your teacher. Visualize the Buddha. Or a beloved child with a beautiful tummy. Take some deep belly breaths and notice what it means to allow your belly to be expansive, soft, and free. - ( http://web.yogajournal.com/ )

An Ishta Devi is your personal image of the Divine Presence. For some people this step is already very clear to them. They already know what image of Presence lives in their hearts. But for others, it’s not so easy.
As usual, I was up early today, buzzing with projects and connections and ideas, but mindful of the time, because my yoga time is important. I came to the mat, chose a basic class and committed to an hour of
moving meditation. |
