The Science of Pranayama by Sri Swami Sivananda ~
http://www.yoga-age.com/asanas/prana.html I spend a lot of time in my head. I always have. I’ve not been a best friend to my body, but yoga is helping me change all this, to see my body in a new light, and to be present in my body, willingly present in my body.
As I ponder on the reasons for my weight gain, I am sure of one thing: physical exercises alone are not enough for me to trim down. Neither are diets. None of them have worked for me by themselves. I have gone back to fat and food bingeing in two shakes of a duck’s tail!! Honestly speaking, it is not about me loosing the weight to skinny proportions so much as it is about having a healthy and ideal weight according to what my spirit needs.
Well, what does my spirit need? Good question!! I will now make a list of all that feels heavy and burdensome to me. Let me get back to you on that one! In the meanwhile, is there something in your life, you feel you need to let go off? Walk with me as we to move on the path of change! Till then, Be Loved, Beloved! In the bigger scheme of things, that is all that really matters!! Namaste, Radiant One! Namaste, Radiant One!
So, here I am, Lavina, trying to get back to my practice of Hatha Yoga!!! Many, many years ago I learned Hatha yoga from my husband to heal a fractured tailbone and loose the excess weight resulting from two months' complete bed rest and zero physical activity!!! It was the best time of my life because I discovered so much of me which I did'nt even know existed. It also somewhat started a spiritual path which had to be worked on a few years later, not to mention that it became such a proud talking point socially!! I cherished the absolute look of shock on the faces of my friends and others, when I proudly stated "I'm doing yoga now!!" But ofcourse if truth be told, I wasnt looking to be a yogi - I was looking to become drop dead gorgeous!!! (chuckle! chuckle!) because after the accident, a very dear friend of mine, called Ranjana, laughed herself into tears when she saw me enter the office all round and plump!! I promised her I would loose every ounce of weight and more!! She did'nt believe me. I kept my word and lost all my excess weight!!
