“How do the open-minded forgive?
They have let go of all things that would prevent forgiveness.”
—ACIM, M.4.X.2.1-2
What would prevent forgiveness?
Judgement, impatience, defensiveness, intolerance, anger, or lack of trust.
All these things indicate a lack of trust in God. When we are angry, we want apologies and retribution. When we are impatient we want to dictate the time-frame. When we are defensive, we are sure we are right, and when we judge we need someone or something else to be wrong.
And when we are letting all these things occupy our hearts and minds, there is no room for forgiveness. But forgiveness opens the door for God. Forgive to make room for God. What could be more important?
