“Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists.” As I walked this morning, this idea became so clear to me. What is not real has only the meaning we give it. My Dad used to say, “your wants are many, but your needs are few.” It’s the same idea. I make a lot of things real, which is to say, important and my-life-depends-on-it, but they are like the wants my Dad could see. They aren’t necessary, they aren’t important in the grand scheme of things, and they certainly aren’t Real. |
I created the requirement that I needed to be a certain body shape, size or number to be loved. But that’s not real. There are no requirements to be loved. I have been loved for eternity. God’s love is not an option. It is always there. I can ignore it, deny it, and close my eyes and heart to it, but it’s always there.
Speaking of numbers, that number on the scale, what does it mean, anyway? How real is that? We are taught that measurements and numbers are the concrete, real stuff. But last night I watched a program about the moon and the presenter demonstrated very clearly that weight is not real. She took a scale, put a metal cube on it, and we see the weight. Then she held a strong magnet over the cube, never touching it, and we could see the weight changing. The number on the scale changed. Just like that. If the moon was closer to us, we would weigh less. If the moon was farther away, we would weight more. That number on the scale is not Real.
What is capital-R-Real? That which is unchanging. That which is universal. That which is eternal. That “that” is God’s Love. The Love that is the very energy of who we are. The Love that created our souls and spirits. The Love that is eternal and unending and limitless. That is Real. The rest is the stuff of children’s make believe, nightmares, role playing and dress up. It can be fun. It can be scary. But it isn’t Real. It passes. It ends. It changes. Play with it, and let it go.
Be secure in the knowing, the remembering, that what is Real cannot be harmed or changed or threatened by anything, especially not anything that is not Real. Go play. You are loved and taken care of, supported and supplied with all you need. All-ways.
